Owning a home is still a big part of the American Dream, but how people get there is changing.
According to Coldwell Banker’s 2026 American Dream Report, 85% of Americans still consider homeownership part of the American Dream. That’s encouraging, especially given the affordability challenges so many buyers are facing today.
One finding that really caught my attention? More families are thinking about homeownership across generations. In fact, 82% of parents with children ages 5 and under have considered or already started saving for their child’s future down payment.
For many families, saving for a first home is becoming part of long-term financial planning, much like saving for college.
What Does This Mean for Buyers in Milton and the South Shore?
We all know that buying a home in today’s market isn’t always easy. Between home prices, mortgage rates, and saving for a down payment, there can be some real obstacles.
But there’s also no single path to homeownership.
Some buyers are saving on their own, others are receiving help from family, and some are adjusting their timelines or considering different locations and types of homes.
What matters most is understanding your options and having a realistic plan that works for you.
Whether buying a home is something you’re hoping to do soon or a goal that’s still a few years away, I’m always happy to help you explore what’s possible.
